Tesla drive unit repair on the lift

Tesla drive unit repair

Large drive unit (LDU) restoration: bearings, seals, stator insulation and the inverter. It is best to fix the fault before it damages the motor.

Electric drive unit

A coolant leak, humming or vibration are common drive unit symptoms. We take the drive unit apart, replace worn parts, restore the stator insulation resistance and check the inverter.

A common Model S and Model X problem is a coolant leak past a seal. Catching the leak early means the drive unit can be restored and a more expensive failure avoided. We work on the Tesla Model S and Model X large drive unit (LDU).

  • Gearbox and rotor bearing replacement
  • Seal replacement, cooling system leak test
  • Restoring stator insulation resistance
  • Inverter (electrical part) inspection
  • Gearbox flush and oil change to manufacturer spec
  • Tesla Model S and Model X large drive unit (LDU)

Signs of a drive unit fault

Humming or whining

A hum that gets louder with speed. Bearings are often the cause.

Vibration

Vibration when accelerating or during regenerative braking.

Fluid under the car

Coolant spots appear or the coolant level drops.

Drive unit error

A drive unit or isolation error with reduced power.

How the work is done

We always agree on the scope, price and timing before starting.

  1. 01

    Diagnostics

We check sealing, bearings, insulation resistance and the inverter.

  2. 02

    Disassembly

We remove and disassemble the drive unit and assess the condition of the parts.

  3. 03

    Restoration

We replace bearings and seals, restore the stator insulation resistance and flush the gearbox.

  4. 04

    Assembly and testing

We change the oil to manufacturer spec, check for leaks and test the car.

Drive unitEU conversion

EU conversion and drive unit restoration

This car, imported from the USA, came in for conversion to European standards and key programming. A full diagnostic check found a coolant leak in the rear drive unit. Although the leak had not yet caused a drive unit failure, we decided to fully restore the drive unit to prevent one.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions Tesla owners ask us most often.

Why is my Tesla drive unit humming?

The most common cause is worn rotor or gearbox bearings. The hum usually gets louder with speed. We confirm the exact cause during diagnostics.

Can the drive unit be repaired instead of replaced?

Yes. Restoration replaces the worn parts, restores the insulation and checks the inverter, so in most cases the whole drive unit does not need replacing.

What should I do if I notice a coolant leak?

Book a diagnostic check as soon as possible. Coolant can get inside the motor and damage the insulation, and a fault caught early is easier to fix.

How much does a drive unit repair cost?

The price depends on the model, the fault and what the diagnostics show, so we do not publish fixed prices. Ask us by phone on +370 691 48300 or by email at everaltsolutions@gmail.com - we always agree on the scope and price before starting work.

Do you provide a warranty?

Yes, we provide a warranty on the work we do. We explain the terms for each specific job when we agree on the repair.

Is your Tesla showing errors or broken down?

Call us or book your car in for diagnostics. Before starting any work we always agree on the scope, price and timing.
